Know what you’re replacing.

A clogged cabin air filter causes weak airflow from the vents, musty smells when the A/C runs, and windows that fog up. On most modern cars it sits behind the glove box and takes about ten minutes to swap. Replace it every 15,000–20,000 miles or once a year.

A little preparation first.

  • Confirm where your car's filter is: most are behind the glove box, a few are under the dash or under the hood near the windshield.
  • Turn the car and the fan off.
  • Have a towel or bag ready — old filters shed leaves and dust.

One step at a time.
