Fix standing water in your dishwasher: clean the filter, check the drain hose, garbage disposal knockout and air gap.

Standing water at the bottom of the dishwasher is usually a clogged filter, a kinked drain hose, or a blocked connection to the sink drain. Start with the filter — it's the cause most of the time.

Pull out the lower rack to reach the filter.

Twist the cylindrical filter counter-clockwise and lift it out. Rinse it under hot water with a soft brush.

Check the hole under the filter for glass, seeds or labels and remove them.

Under the sink, make sure the drain hose isn't kinked or crushed and loops up high before it connects.

If you just installed a disposal, the knockout plug in its inlet may still be there. Also run the disposal — a clogged disposal blocks the dishwasher.
